For the Spark Christmas campaign, we brought Rudolph to life through ‘hacking’ Facebook’s LIVE functionality.
As a child, I would always be transfixed by the ‘santa map’ aired during tv ad breaks. A little blinking dot over a map would indicate where Santa would be, as he made is way around the world. Being in New Zealand, he would would be last. Knowing that he was currently flying over the France made the magic even more real. I wanted to bring the same magic to new tech, to stream Rudolph’s test flight on Facebook Live.

To make it happen, we first used a helicopter cam to record the flight. We began at Piha beach to capture the glorious sunset, then through the Waitākere Ranges, and finally over Auckland CBD.
Secondly, we added Rudolph’s nose with VFX and Rudolph’s bells with SFX.
