MADDY is a reimagined rocking chair, that enhances the classic qualities though the utilisation of CNC processes. Inspired by the old porch rocking chair, the uneven base creates a staccato feedback for the sitter. Like the old wooden rocking chair where the wood would flex, the CNC bent sheet metal extends that quality, forming around the ergonomic forces of the body. The profile reflects the modern digital aesthetic, graphic parallel lines. When the chair holds a person, the parallel lines are distorted and appear more random, springing back into line when empty. This project was overseen by staff of Victoria University of Wellington.
